Our popular opening reception featuring fine art and the opportunity to meet the artists. It’s a perfect time to discover the inspiration behind the art. In addition to paintings, photography, and sculpture, Friday night features the culinary work of the Lazy Dog Coffeehouse’s Jim Calderone.

This year we celebrate the art of Fashion & Beauty. In a blend of past and present, each one-of-a kind fashion by Wanda Marie Sanders is beautifully tailored and thought provoking. Dave Naydock is a self-taught artist living in Pottsville. Over the last 30 years he has visually chronicled the life, times, and history of Pottsville, Schuylkill County, and beyond.

He has evolved as an artist arriving at his own style. In trying to define his surroundings, he has found his own voice. He has executed 175 murals, 65 in Pottsville alone. He has created approximately 2,000 easel picture on glass, canvas, and found objects.

With years of experience in the fashion and film industry Wanda found herself compelled to combine not only the creative aspects of these industries but, her fine arts background as well to create thoughtfuly tailored and at times thought provoking pieces.

Wanda's work has not only been worn by such personalities as Faith Evans, Graph Nobel, Venus and Serena Williams, but has been featured in such films as Spike Lee's "Girl 6" and "He Got Game" as well as the television program "Showtime at the Apollo."

Applying her attention to detail and tailoring Wanda blends the past and present as well as thematic whimsy, to create unique pieces for those who dare venture through the looking glass.

His work is in private collections in Scotland, Canada, Australia, and the United States. Dave continues to evolve in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

You can meet Dave at the opening reception and see his work in A Block of Art. Also, come see Dave's studio at 372 South Centre Street. Patty Krause will also be showing metal sculpture, toll painting, and acrylic on canvas at that location.

Meet the Artist: Jim Calderone

In 1974, Jim Calderone joined The Seafood Shanty Restaurant Group in Cornwells Heights, Pa. where his professional culinary skills began. He received extensive one-on-one training from European Cordon Bleu Master Chef Joe Goebel; training which could not be received in any culinary school in the world. After bringing his art to a select number of illustrious restaurants, a few years ago Jim made the decision to return home to Minersville, Pa. and in 2007 accepted his current position as Executive Chef/Floor Manager at the Lazy Dog Coffeehouse. Jim’s background in both the arts and music makes him the perfect culinary expert for the Lazy Dog Coffeehouse, a true Greenwich Village style Coffeehouse and a Live Music Venue offering blues, jazz, R&B and classic rock fifty two weeks a year with food that is second-to-none.
